Work hours calculator

Enter when you started and finished each day and how long your unpaid break was. The calculator adds up the week in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, the format most payslips and timesheets use. Night shifts that finish after midnight are handled for you.

How to calculate your worked hours

  1. Tick the days you worked and enter your start and end time for each one.
  2. Add the unpaid break in minutes. Paid breaks stay in, so leave them at 0.
  3. If a shift ends after midnight, just type the real end time: an end earlier than the start is counted as the next day.
  4. Read the weekly total in hours and minutes, or in decimal hours for your timesheet.
  5. Optionally add your hourly rate to see the gross pay for those hours.

Hours and minutes vs. decimal hours

Timesheets and payroll usually count time in decimal hours: 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 hours, and 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours. To convert, divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. The calculator shows both so you can compare it with what your employer recorded.

Night shifts and shifts that cross midnight

A shift from 10 pm to 6 am lasts eight hours even though the end looks earlier than the start. Most spreadsheets get this wrong and show a negative number. Here, any end time earlier than the start counts as the following morning, and the unpaid break is subtracted from the full span.

Check it against your payslip

Keeping your own record is the simplest way to catch missing overtime or a shift that was never paid. Write the week down here, or clock in and out with the app, and compare the total with the hours on your payslip at the end of the month.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked with a lunch break?
Subtract the unpaid break from the time between start and end. From 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch is 8 hours. Paid breaks are part of your working time, so leave the break at 0.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25, 30 minutes is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75, so 7 h 45 min is 7.75 hours.
Does it work for night shifts?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it is treated as the next morning. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours before breaks.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent or stored. If you want a record, the Agenda Laboral app keeps your shifts on your iPhone.
